It’s Market Week Baby!

February 28, 2013

After the whirlwind of NY Fashion Week, I jumped right into market week this year! Joining the Capsule Show for my 3 year with them, I revealed the first pieces from my new Heritage Collection. Inspired by indigenous ancestry, I blended new shapes with my ever constant adoration of NYC’s architecture to create a mix of tribal meets deco. I’m pretty excited about the results.

ImageAbby from Brooklyn Heavy Metal had the booth next to mine. It was so much fun hanging out with her for 3 days! I feel like I have a new partner in jewelry mayhem.

More to be revealed soon about the Heritage Collection and it’s official launch for Fall/Winter 2013!

in complete procrastination of 1021 things i am supposed to be doing today, i thought it completely important to post a photo of the new scarf that my friend Alyson just sent me! she actually sent me 2 amazing scarves, but i’m holding out on showing you the second one because i’m going to rock it during Spring and show it to you then!

Alyson is hands down one of my favorite people on this planet. She is an incredible designer with a soul so bright, i can feel her awesomeness 3000 miles away (she lives in Portland). Her clothes are stunning and should you fancy some new items, which i know you do, check out her website: http://www.alysonclair.com to scope her pretty, pretty new collection.

i can't decide what i love more, the charming print or its perfect shade of hermes orange?

The other object that i am completely smitten with this week is this gorgeous, shiny Stag’s head that my “mother-in-law” gave me.

Wait… what do you call your sweetheart’s mother if you’re not married? your “lover’s mother”? your “hunny’s mummy”? is there a term for this? with the amount of peeps in committed relationships that aren’t married, i feel like we need a new term for one another’s parents…. just a thought.

ok, back to my obsession – this amazing Stag, which i do believe needs a name, is now grandly adorning my dining table, along with the matching snowflake platters that Glennis (my lover’s mother) also gave me. how awesome is she!? i can’t stop smiling every time i walk past my table. it’s just so pretty.

i hope you are enjoying this beautiful winter afternoon somewhere cozy with lovely things to look at.

Life keeps streaming by…

July 13, 2010

wow, where did this last month go? careening by. amid a thousand june events, the opening of the Re:Group: Beyond Models of Consensus exhibit at Eyebeam Gallery, was a night to be remembered. the show was curated by Beka Economopolous and Jason Jones of Not An Alternative and showcased the work of 13 artists, including the Yes Men.

my evening kicked off with the opening at Eyebeam with amusing interactive art pieces to investigate and lots of wonderful people to chat with. My favorite piece in the show was created by Giana Gonzalez titled, Hacking Couture. She broke down fashion labels into a grid that charted the visual fundamentals of each brand into an aesthetic code. her comment on fashion houses is that any major brand can essentially be recreated by anyone who hacks into and follows the specific code of that brand. as a designer, i’m not sure how i entirely agree with this theory, as it removes the personal creativity that each designer brings to her/his fashion label, but it’s an interesting concept. her charted display of the break down of  brands such as YSL, Versace, and Gucci, made it simple to understand that each major design house does have a “code” that it routinely follows with each new collection. all in all, super thought provoking and cool subject to ponder.

After the opening, a large group of us wandered out into the Meatpacking District to find some food and more yummy drinks. a ton of parties were happening all around the neighborhood, including a silly red carpet event that a few of us couldn’t resist. when you see young ladies parading around on a red carpet, what else can one do but jump right in? we snagged a shot of beka and myself hamming it up with the poor young one that happened to be on the carpet as we walked by. after a moment of confused surprise, she warmed right up and struck a pose with her arms around us for all the cameras, before we winked and dashed off to our evening’s next adventure.

Let the Summer Fashion Parties Begin!

June 6, 2010

one of my favorite things about NYC summers are the evening fashion events sprinkled throughout each week’s calendar. a party here, a party there. a soiree in soho, a dj spinning at an anniversary  in williamsburg, a new opening in the L.E.S., and prosecco as far as the eye can see. in addition to all day music concerts on the williamsburg waterfront and free movies in Bryant Park, this array of fashion events gives every girl perfect opportunities to show off her new summer apparel. i kicked off the sultry night celebrations this first week of June on thursday at Oak’s opening party honoring Obey’s new collection and then headed over to Charlie & Sam for their 1 year anniversary party. Oak has the most amazing array of hand dyed tank tops, and i highly recommend checking out Samantha Pleet’s new dresses and jumpsuits at Charlie & Sam.

on friday night, i bounced over to Court’s soho shop to give my ladies, Nicole and Lisa, big hugs and sip on the Crystal Head vodka/lemonade mixers they were serving up all night. Crystal Head is dan aykroyd’s vodka company, and he was super cool to donate some of the beautiful skull shaped bottles of his delicious vodka for Court’s yummy drinks. on saturday, a few of my wonderful friends came into the city from Boston for a visit, and we went over to check out the new Renegade Craft Fair in williamsburg’s McCarren Park. over 300 indie artists from the NE came to set up shop and show off their wares over the weekend. all in all, it was a great start to summer parties. now the only question is, what will i get to wear out and about next week?

this spring has been a busy one for popular urban street artists here in nyc. shepard fairey had his big opening at Deitch Project on May Day (a party that i stood in the longest line for any event i have ever attended), while Banksy has been famously popping up all over San Francisco and recently left a few of his gems here in Soho, Chinatown, and Brooklyn, and of course, there’s swoon. here are a few of their recent pieces that i have the grand pleasure of walking past in my regular nyc travels…

JDS Jewelry at the New Limelight Marketplace

May 12, 2010

this last weekend the new Limelight Marketplace opened in Chelsea with much anticipation. for those of us that partied in this old cathedral as kids, it has been a long wait to discover the new fancy digs for this gothic NYC landmark. i am delighted to report – the place is amazing. every detail from the gorgeous black and white interior (my personal favorite choice of color palate) with sharp wallpaper and shiny tiled floors to the decision to keep the old stained glass windows gives this new shopping center a chic, modern atmosphere that will make you want to stay and linger in its beauty for hours. my favorite boutique in the market is Old Hollywood! operated by a great group of savvy, foxy ladies with owner Tiffany Porter at the wheel, Old Hollywood is the best shop in the market not only because they sell the most fabulous merchandise (locally made jewelry, including mine), but they are also the only independent shop in Limelight. so the next time you find yourself needing the perfect gift for yourself or someone you love, skip on over to the market and immerse yourself into a world of pretty decadence. and be sure to tell the girls at Old Hollywood that i say hello!

horse feathers slay me

May 5, 2010

this year i received the best birthday gift ever (other than diamonds that is) – tickets to a Horse Feathers concert. a few years ago cristin stumbled upon the music of this incredible band, and we have been eternally bewitched by them since. the sweet, soft melodies, poetic genius, and unmistakable crooning of Justin Ringle will stir desire for more under every inch of your skin. we went to see them at Union Hall in brooklyn on monday night. the intimate, old timely mood of this venue is the perfect setting to enjoy each strum of banjo and each pluck of violin strings contributing to make Horse Feathers sound so mesmerizing.

Paris is Red. Chrysanthemums are Charming.

May 3, 2010

pink is a color that stirs a slight reservation in me. perhaps a childhood of pink explosion has led to an adulthood of pink moderation. occasionally,  i do have my moments of pink joy. my bike is a beloved friend of mine. she is fast. she is daring. she knows the streets of nyc well  and guides me through their chaotic maze with comfortable ease. i never leave her outside overnight and when i do have to lock her up, i give a reassuring squeeze to her handlebars and tell her not to let anyone fuck with her, promising i will be right back. when we’re not out tackling the traffic and potholes, she hangs out in my kitchen.

this morning at the market, i was choosing new flowers for my house and spotted some adorable, tiny, pink mums. i love chrysanthemums. the repetition of their petals is so alluring to me. they’re sexy, those petals. anyway, i saw the pink mums and thought of my bike. so i decided to bring her home a bouquet. after all, my bike totally deserves to be courted and flowers to prove my adoration seemed like the perfect expression of smitten pink joy.
