January 6, 2011

So excited to announce that my favorite NYC soho boutique, Court, just launched an online shop. Nicole and Lisa are my total go-to whenever i’m in need of a new article of clothing. they have impeccable taste in clothes and always carry things that you can’t find anywhere else in NYC. they recently launched their own Court label jeans, and they are hott hott hott.  i am very proud that Jené DeSpain jewelry has been a part of Court since the beginning and i am so excited that it’s now available through their website. Check out this story that Styled On wrote about the new shop: http://www.styledon.com/fashion/features/articles/for-cool-girls-only-court-gets-digital

December 3, 2010

The Black Honey Collection is a collection of urban inspired jewelry with lots of edge. Created in the Spring of 2011, pops of 14k gold are highlighted with flashes of shiny gunmetal, while constructed pieces of raw brass are accented with black leather.

this spring has been a busy one for popular urban street artists here in nyc. shepard fairey had his big opening at Deitch Project on May Day (a party that i stood in the longest line for any event i have ever attended), while Banksy has been famously popping up all over San Francisco and recently left a few of his gems here in Soho, Chinatown, and Brooklyn, and of course, there’s swoon. here are a few of their recent pieces that i have the grand pleasure of walking past in my regular nyc travels…

jewelry hearts music

May 3, 2010

if you have not discovered her amazing music yet, holly miranda is going to bring a whole new level of bliss to your auditory experience. her great voice and ethereal songs will send you to an otherworld of daydreaming about the one who broke your heart and the one who will come along to mend it. a fellow brooklyn girl, holly is about to take the globe by storm with her upcoming international tour and bewitch every lucky boy n girl along the way. today she came over to my apartment to talk about nyc, her adorable nieces, and jewelry. i am creating an exclusive collection of jewelry just for holly. yes, she’s that special. seriously. we sipped chai and dished over some of my favorite topics- gemstones and horses. i’m not going to spill too much now, but i think this is going to be a super rad collaboration. no details about what bling i am adorning holly with yet, but here’s a sneak peek at my sketch pad as we brainstormed ideas…

stay tuned. jené despain jewelry for holly miranda will be appearing in NYC soon…

in the meantime, here is some brooklyn up in here:

The Roaring 10’s Look Book

April 14, 2010

The Roaring 10’s line of jewelry pays homage to art deco and its artists who, partly to inspire hope in a time of struggle, created and emphasized beautiful design. Listening at my jewelry bench to newscasts this past year comparing today’s economic meltdown to Black Tuesday and the Great Depression, I heard, night after night, echoes of that past in the forecasts of our new economic future. My response, The Roaring 10’s Collection, recalls art deco’s enduring motif of intense design. Looking forward to the coming decade’s new, if unrealized, promises, we can still celebrate this legacy of past beauty.

Art deco design began during the 1920’s and remained popular into the 40’s. Artists responded to both the new industrial might of 1920’s America and the crushing hardships of the Great Depression by mixing strong geometric lines with shapes of graceful symmetry. Bringing this beauty into the country’s architecture, fashion, and jewelry helped give people a sense of hope and the opportunity to enjoy their surroundings even as they struggled.

The striking architecture of New York’s many art deco landmarks inspired the name of each design in the collection. As I walk through the streets of my home, personal favorites in this mix of intricate architectural masterpieces inspire and bring me a quiet joy. Elements of their magnificent design echo in the detailed, geometric pieces of the Roaring 10’s Collection.
